About
My research explores African American male rhetorical traditions of identity formation. Specifically i am interested in how young black college males construct multiple identities using complex literacy practices. Currently, i am studying these literacy practices through reading the literacy narrative memoirs of black college males. By first engaging the question "what is the substance of black male writing?" we might begin to understand the dimensions of rhetorical practices that black males employ across texts and contexts.
I am also interested in curriculum development in university writing programs and how writing program administrators can build curriculum that best meets the needs of a culturally diverse student population. I have co-edited two anthologies for first year writing that have been used both as TA training tools and for designing writing courses. The most recent anthology, Reading and Writing Literacies has been published this summer and includes an online portal.
